Alert Pay appears to have changed my account type without my knowledge, without my permission, and without informing me.  Is this a sign of things to come?  Are they starting on the slippery e-gold slope?

I have not exceeded the receiving limit for my original type of account ($400.00 per month or $2000.00 per year) as my total payments received from January 2010 to July 20, 2010 are $552.73 (average of less than $ 80.00 per month, the highest month was January with $127.90 with the lowest month being June with $36.46)

Already Canadian banks refuse to do business with Alert Pay (which is headquartered in Canada).

Sneaking around and changing account types solely to benefit themselves (the new account type charges fees while the old one didn't) is a good (or bad)first step towards USA banks following the lead of their Canadian counterparts.

Personally, I am changing everything to PayPal.  If I have to pay fees anyway, PayPal is preferable for many reasons.

1)Most program owners have a much easier time funding their PayPal accounts (especially those living in Canada, as they aren't even allowed to upload funds to their Alert Pay accounts) which means members generally get paid faster.

2) Alert Pay charges me 50 cents to transfer my funds to my bank account, whereas with PayPal it is free.

3) PayPal at least has the common courtesy to notify you when they change your account for whatever reason

Its not the fees that bother me as much as the sneakiness.

Hello Ms. Roley,

Thank you for your understanding.

That's not the only inconsistency with AlertPay.  I'm Canadian, so is AlertPay.  To get my account verified I have to complete 2 of 3 possible processes.

# 1 Credit File Confirmation
Quote
For credit file validation, we submit your name, address and date of birth to a credit bureau to verify your identity. You are not required to submit your Social Insurance Number or Driver's License. Credit file validation WILL NOT affect your credit in any way.
Done within 24 hours.

# 2 Attestation Form
Quote
An Attestation is a form that you must fill out and have signed by a guarantor or Commissioner of Oaths. To get the form signed, you must provide the guarantor or Commissioner of Oaths with a proof of address and a photo ID. Once signed, you must submit the form with your proof of address and photo ID.
I refuse to do this.

#3 Bank Account Confirmation
Quote
Once you add your bank account for electronic funds transfer, we send two micro-deposits to confirm that your bank account is valid. This also allows us to verify your identity. Please note that you must confirm these micro-deposits in your AlertPay account.
I added my bank account, but... Canadian banks will not recognize AlertPay, so my verification status has said:
Bank Account Confirmation     Not Completed    Deposits Pending   for almost a year.  Yet they still list it as a verification method.

What is bugging me at the moment is the "funding".
I do not understand what the difference between "bank wire" and "bank transfer" is - maybe this is getting lost in translation, I have no idea. For me it is one and the same thing. For AlertPay though, it is a €20 difference. One option is free - and obviously not active/available (at least for me) - the other one would cost me as stated €20 - and I somehow refuse to pay a whopping €20 for a $20 upload - for example. I used to be able to use the free option, I know I funded my account for free in the past, so I wonder what has changed since. I am pretty much fed up with them Sad

A bank wire means that there is a middle man doing and guaranteeing the transfer.  It goes through a certified secure independent network instead of directly from AlertPay to bank.  It sounds like German banks don't trust AlertPay anymore than Canadian banks do.

Touch Wood, call us lucky, but we have not had any issues with AlertPay once we got through the rigmarole of verifying a Business Account. We were never with them and only opened an account as a service to our members when we took on our sites.

We can transfer from our bank account without fees but if our beloved queenoftheuniverse is swapping to PayPal then that's one less member using it. I think we've used it nearly as much for swapping funds with other people that wanted AlertPay and paid us with PayPal than for receiving payments from and making payouts to members lol.

Grin No, not an open slather invitation lol, but if it helps you and your members out then we don't mind.

I switched everything other than YGA and Lady of The Links to PayPal yesterday (a few sites I belong to only offer PayPal so no need to switch them).  I may have to switch Lady anyway, pending payout or no pending payout, as Canadians aren't allowed to upload funds currently
